LOST CHILDREN

The project LOST CHILDREN  is a reflection on identity through the exploration of Old Master's paintings.

By appropriating these historical artworks, the artist looks beyond the central subjects and reveals forgotten or abandoned identities within these complex paintings. Focusing on a specific infant, in a minute detail of the tableau, the artist resurrects and revalorise these once insignificant individuals, redefining possible identities in an imaginary alternative time-space.These “little people” are seemingly unimportant, unidentified extras, hidden from the spotlight, yet each one was nevertheless represented, somewhere in the details of a masterpiece, their initial purpose perhaps known only by the painter. Society shines light on those who detain central positions and power whilst a significant number of “extras” are inevitably hidden in the background without whom the system cannot function.
